Antibiotic-free poultry farming launched in state

DIPHU, Nov 28: An antif-biotic poultry farming under the start-up name Graduate farmers was launched in the state. This was informed by director of the organisation Bapan Das here today.

According to the director, Graduate farmers, one of the social enterprises of Assam, started antibiotic-free poultry farming with the aim of increasing the income of farmers in rural areas and providing antibiotics-free poultry products in the market.  Speaking about the project, Bapan Das, director of the organisation, said the basis of the initiative is to produce high quality poultry products without the use of antibiotics.  With a deeply rooted belief in responsible farming practices, they are contributing to a healthy ecosystem and providing consumers with antibiotic residue-free meat and eggs by making this move. 

Another Director of the organisation, Shamim Chowdhury said, “We have been integrating modern techniques with traditional knowledge to raise chickens which on one hand is sustainable and also saving farmers money spent on medicines.  He said there are currently about 1,000 farmers involved in the three districts of Barak Valley namely Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi. He said that farmers getting training and necessary support from the organization and set up their own farms.

Graduate Farmers is a social startup which is incubated under the IIM Calcutta Innovation Park and Assam Startup where more than thousand farmers are associated.
