DIPHU, Nov 22: The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) today held a protest demonstration in their own office premise to demand the withdrawal of the New Land Policy – 2023, recently adopted by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). The programme was also joined by Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) and the Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA).
The party and its allied bodies expressed their strong disapproval of the New Land Policy adopted by KAAC. They demanded that KAAC must immediately withdraw it as they police is not in favour of the well-being of the indigenous tribal communities.
The protesting organisations a memorandum letter to the KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang demanding the withdrawal of the land policy and putting an end to collecting increased land revenue from the people.
They demanded the ‘Mission Basundhara-2.0’ scheme should not be implemented in Karbi Anglong and other districts under the sixth schedule. The further demanded that the Land & Revenue department of KAAC must stop issuing land patta to non-tribal communities coming from outside.
ASDC president Chandrakanta Terang informed that they will conduct a similar protest programme in Bokalia, Dokmoka and Dongkamukam very soon.
