DIPHU, Aug 21: Regional party Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) has demanded the Election Commission for rearrangement of delimitation of constituencies of the twin hills districts of Karbi Anglong after it expressed unhappiness over the final delimitation notification it received. This was stated during a press conference convened at its office in Diphu today.
During the press conference, the party informed that no suggestions for modifying the draft proposals in respect of the delimitation of LA constituency in the Autonomous District of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong have been conceded by the EC as per the final delimitation notification issued on August 11, 2023. The party said that the complete rejection of their suggestions has made the meaning of the meeting on July 19 at Guwahati pointless.
The regional party pointed out that the bifurcation of areas like Dolamara and Baguri from Bokajan (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency and their inclusion in Howraghat has been criticized as impractical and unorganized. Suggestions have been made to retain these villages within Bokajan (ST) LAC and adjust Development Block boundaries if needed.
The party has put forth a proposal to include the entire Socheng Development Block in the boundaries of No. 111 Rongkhang (ST) LAC. This suggestion is intended to make the NEC road from Baithalangso to Khanduli as the demarcation line between Rongkhang (ST) LAC and Amri (ST) LAC, aiming to facilitate local residents.
Further, the ASDC has recommended the formation of No. 112 Amri (ST) LAC by encompassing the entire geographical areas of Amri and Chinthong Development Blocks stating that these two development blocks covered more than 60 percent of the total areas of West Karbi Anglong District with 90 percent difficult terrain hills areas.
In addition to this, the party called upon the EC that some areas of Amri (ST) LAC bordering Nagaon district were also included in No. 63. Hojai LAC and termed it contradictory and against both the provisions of Article 332 of the Constitution of India as well as the provisions and law the Election Commission.
The ASDC has also demanded the EC to delete the name of the area so-called Barpathar GP from Hojai LAC reminding that these areas bordering erstwhile Nagaon district are part of West Karbi Anglong which has also been notified through the Assam Gazette Notification dated 3rd September 1975 and became part of Baithalangso (ST) LAC and Duaramla MAC Constituency since then for the last 44 years.
The above point was also issued through a press release by ASDC general secretary Jotson Bey and assistant general secretary Sanjay Killing here today.
