Assam Guv visits Diphu; holds series of meetings will local representatives

DIPHU, Aug 17: Assam Governor Gulap Chand Kataria paid his maiden visit to Karbi Anglong today. In his visit to the district’s headquarter, he inspected Diphu Medical College & Hospital, paid a visit to Taralangso’s Karbi People’s Hall and held meetings with local representatives and officials at the conference hall in Arboretum cum Craft Centre, Matipung.

“I am always keen to know the issues and problems of the people of all the districts of Assam and through these visits, I am learning many things about the feelings and thought of the people here,” said the Guv while talking to the press after the meetings.

“The main objective of my visit is to know about status of the implementation of various schemes announced by the govt. I have discussions with both the officials and the beneficiaries to know the actual picture. I am glad to know that several beneficiaries have thanked the Prime Minister for his steps to uplift the lives of the poor,” he added.

He informed that the local public representatives and officials have briefed him on the developing of all scheme being implemented under the KAAC jurisdiction. He had appealed the local stakeholders to actively participate in the full implementation of all schemes. 

On the issue of the inter-state boundary dispute the Guv said that all matters should be resolved through discussion. “I am aware of the inter-state boundary issue with Meghalaya and Nagaland. Negotiation is the best way to resolve these disputes. If no solution is reached in one attempt, more rounds of talks must be conducted,” he said.

While commenting on the creation of a new voter list, the Guv said that the Election Commission has the overall authority in it.

“I am ready to talk to the government when the necessary time comes as this is a very long-standing demand of the people here,” said Guv Gulap Chand Kataria while replying to question on autonomous state.
