HAFLONG, May 02: Assam Mines and Minerals Minister Nandita Garlosa inaugurated limestone mining area at 18 Kilo, Umrongso in Dima Hasao on Monday.
The area will be operated under Assam Mining Development Corporation (AMDC) and covers the total area of 231 hectares. The inauguration was followed by a public meeting on which DHAC MAC Joysing Durong, top official of AMDC, GBs and hundreds of general public have attended. Minister Nandita Garlosa during her speech stated that the project on its functioning state will solve unemployment issues of the area and will also increased revenue of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council which in terms will bring overall development in the district.
Further she said that the mining department is aware about the cons of mining and will ensure to protect the environment at same time. She also encouraged inhabitants to plant more trees so that environment regenerate itself triple times faster than mining. The minister also ceremonially handed over three school buses, an ambulance, a water tanker and 27 numbers of scholarships for underprivileged students of the area under CSR of the AMDC. On providing them with several assistance, she also appealed them to make good use of the vehicles and also urged the students to use the scholarship judiciously.
