DIPHU, Aug 23: An awareness programme on road safety was organised by the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) under the DTO in collaboration with the District Press Club of Karbi Anglong (DPCKA) at Rukasen College in Bakalia here today.
Apart from the students and teachers of the college, the awareness programme was attended by District Transport Officer Vikram Aditya Gogoi, Bakalia Rukasen College principal Milan Banik, DPCKA adviser Sonju Bora, PWD Engineer and Manja Police station OC Raju Duwara, DPCKA assistant secretary Vivian Longki Rongpi and several of its members.
DTO Vikram Aditya Gogoi during his speech highlighted several safety measures that have to be always adopted by riders and drivers. He reminded and stressed on the need for constant use of helmets and seat belts to reduce and prevent any dangers to the riders, drivers and passengers from accidents of any level.
He also advised all riders and drivers to never use mobile phones while driving and to maintain and respect the direction one is driving. The DTO also stated that riders and drivers of all types of vehicles to never drive on the pedestrian direction, to slow down and ride carefully while check for Zebra Crossing.
On the legal action for violation of different traffic rules, the DTO reminded that Rs. 5,000 fines would be imposed if caught using mobile phone while driving. Rs. 10,000 fine would be imposed if caught driving under influence.
The DTO also cautioned that if any minor is caught driving, the parents would be fined for Rs. 25,000 and imprisonment upto 3 years if fined is not paid. On the speeding of vehicle, the DTO informed that every rider and driver must drive under fixed permissible limit. He further informed that if minor are caught driving and speeding, they would not be given driving license as everything would be recorded in the database.
During his speech, DPCKA adviser Sonju Bora also highlighted several points pertaining to consequences of rash driving and DUI and called upon the students community to obey the traffic rules and regulations that has been framed for their own safety and of others.
Earlier, DPCKA secretary Danielson Bey led the introduction and felicitation of all guests present at the programme.
