DIPHU, Jun 04: Under the initiative of the Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF) an awareness programme on prevention of early child marriage and child labour was held today at Koruwa Basti LP School playground in Koilamati, under Nilip constituency. The theme of the event was “The effect of early marriage. Say no to early marriage and grab your key to success. Small hands can handle a pen better, lend your support to abolish child labour.”
Chaired by KAWJF president Beaulet Beypi, the event was attended by several elders from the village as well as members of Adivasi Peace Accord Implementation & Coordination Committee. Resource person of the campaign was Sabin Rongpipi.
Speaking on the occasion, the resource person Sabin Rongpipi spoke at length on the negative impact of early marriage and child labour. She said that these two acts are a threat to the future of not only one person but of the whole society.
Attended by hundreds of female participants including women and young girls, the programme was a success.
