DIPHU, Sep 04: An awareness programme on literacy was held at Diphu Govt. Boys’ Higher Secondary School (DGBHSS) on Monday morning. The programme was held under the initiative of the Adult Education Department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and conducted to celebrate ‘International Literacy Day’ as part of the Literacy Week.
The Inspector of Schools for Karbi Anglong Birensing Ingti visited the school and addressed the school students about the importance of creating awareness on basic literary (reading, writing and arithmetic) among the old citizens of the nation in order to make India a 100% literate country. He said that youths and students have a big role to play in curbing our illiteracy in society.
A pledge was also administered to the students in the presence of DGBHSS principal Hillary Terang, teachers and staff of the Education Department. Through the pledge, the students made a commitment to take the message literary as a compulsory art.
To wind up the programme, a short rally was also conducted, where students with banners in hand shouted slogans for compulsory literacy.
