DILLAI, Dec 14: Chesong Terang, a one and a half year old boy had died from falling into an open kutcha well. The incident happened at around 11 am on December 12 in Upper Hatoka under Dillai Police Station. He was the son of Porom Terang and Mirklar Rongpipi.
According to the parents, on that fateful day, while the mother was busy reaping paddy. The boy who was playing nearby reached the open well and fell into it. The mother and other people present came to know a bit lately. When he was taken out from the well, he was alive but struggling to breathe. He was taken to Dimapur Civil Hospital, but in vain for he died on the way.
Locals have said that the incident happened due to the govt.’s negligence towards the area. Hatoka area does not have proper roads and proper drinking water facilities and the people have been facing a lot of difficulties living in the absence of basic amenities.
It may be mentioned that Hatoka is an SGB village with 70 families living in it. Despite this, the authority has been ignoring this area’s development from a long time. In 2020, before the MLA elections, the local residents along with KSA leaders conducted a protest demonstration to demand basic facilities.
