KAAC Targets 2–3 Crore Plantation Drive under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’
DIPHU, Aug 21: Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, this morning launched a mega cycle rally from KASA Stadium, Diphu, to Borlangfer along Lumding Road, with the participation of over 1,250 cyclists. The rally marked the beginning of an extensive awareness campaign for mass plantation under the initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In his address, Dr. Ronghang stated that the rally will continue for a month, covering nearly 50 km stretches to spread the message of environmental conservation. KAAC has instructed all forest range offices across the district to distribute saplings free of cost, urging every citizen to plant a tree in the name of their mother as a mark of respect and commitment to nature.
The CEM further announced that 10,000 saplings will be planted in Diphu as part of the drive, with an overall target of 2 to 3 crore saplings to be planted across Karbi Anglong by the end of September. The initiative is expected to spark a green revolution and raise broader awareness of ecological sustainability in the district.
