DIPHU, Aug 19: The Jal Jivan Mission Contractor Association P.H.E Department (JJMCAPHED) of Karbi Anglong, supported by the All Assam Public Health Technical Contractors Association and All Assam P.H.E.D Contractors Association, will hold a 2-hour sit-in-demonstration in front of the office of the Executive Engineer PHE, Diphu Rural W/S Division, on August 20.
The demonstration, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., aims to pressurize the concerned department and the Govt. of Assam to meet the association’s various demands. According to Raj Engleng, president of JJMCAPHED, Karbi Anglong district, the PHE department has pending bills against the Jal Jeevan Mission works done by the contractors.
The association’s demands include making bill payments to all Jal Jeevan contractors at the earliest, stopping new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Jal Jeevan Mission works, discussing the withholding of bills based on the Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) with the Director of Management, and ensuring the release of the 6% GST component that remains unpaid.
The association has requested all JJM contractors under Diphu Rural Division, Howraghat, Hamren, and Ulukunchi Divisions of the PHE department to attend the dharna. The sit-in demonstration is a clear indication of the contractors’ determination to have their demands met and to resolve the issues that have been affecting their work.
