KOILAMATI, Aug 01: The nationally acclaimed Dhriiti NGO conducted a cleanliness drive at Semelangso Waterfall, in Koilamati under Nilip MAC constituency. The programme was conducted on Thursday, July 31.
Semelangso is a very popular picnic spot in Karbi Anglong. Apart from the people of the district, tourists from places like Golaghat, Dimapur, Guwahati, Shillong, Jorhat, Nagaon and adjacent areas visit the place regularly. Despite the efforts of the Management Committee to maintain the picnic spot, the lack of a proper road up to the location is still a big problem.
Volunteers of the NGO along with other participants, collected empty bottles, plastic wrappers, and put them in the dustbins. They also painted on the rocks, swept the area, and cleared the bushes.
The cleanliness drive was led by youths including Joshna Teronpi, Barnabas Singnar, Arlongson Tisso, Rebecca Teronpi, Field Coordinator Sarbinong Engti, Field Officer Jonas Timung, Iswel Teron, Communication Social Officer Klimson Terang and others. At least 50 people took part in the event.
It may be mentioned that the Dhriiti NGO has been organising various awareness programmes dedicated to the youths. They give main emphasis on solving the problem of unemployment by training and motivating the youths to take up small businesses.
