Dillai Press Club condemns the attempt to kidnap a journalist

DILLAI, Jul 21: The Dillai Press Club (DPC) has vehemently condemned the attempt of some miscreants to kidnap Manoj Chakraborty, a local journalist. In a press meeting called today, the DPC president, Bijoy Rongpi, termed the incident as an attack on the media fraternity and creating a hindrance to their duty.
The incident happened on the evening of July 19, at around 5:45 PM, when Manoj was returning to Dillai from Lahorijan. When he reached the place between 6th Mile and Langtibuk, under Lahorijan Patrol Post, three persons threatened him and tried to take him hostage. They showed him a pistol and took away all the money he had. However, when the miscreants came to know that Manoj was a journalist, they fled from the spot in a car bearing the registration number AS01 AD 5900.
Manoj hurriedly reached the Lahorijan Patrol Post and informed the police of the incident. Acting swiftly on the information, the Dillai Police was successful to apprehend the miscreants at 10th Mile.
DPC president thanked the Dillai Police for their swift action to catch the perpetrators. He appealed that in the future no such incident must happen to any journalist.
