HAFLONG, Aug 26: Three Taekwondo athletes from Dima Hasao district brought laurels to the region by clinching four medals at the Khelo India Asmita League, held at Delhi Public School, Jorhat, from August 23 to 25. The event was organised by the Taekwondo Martial Arts Sports Association of Assam (TMASAA) under the aegis of India Taekwondo, promoted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India (MYAS).
Pollabi Handique emerged as a standout performer, winning two gold medals, while Anushkha Ghimire bagged one gold medal, and Bhumika Boro secured a silver medal, taking the district’s tally to four medals in total.
The championship witnessed the participation of over 800 athletes across Assam, competing across Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, and Senior categories. Winners from this league will now earn the opportunity to represent Assam at the national stage of the Khelo India Asmita League.
The Khelo India Asmita League, formerly known as the Khelo India Women’s League, was launched in 2021 to promote women’s participation in sports. Asmita—standing for “Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action”—aims to foster inclusiveness and empower female athletes under the Khelo India initiative.
The General Secretary of the Association expressed pride in their achievement, stating that this opportunity would help the girls gain valuable experience and motivate more students from the district to excel in sports.
