DIPHU, May 27: The alumni meet cum felicitation of retired professors of Diphu Govt. College (DGC) was held today at Rangsina Sarpo Auditorium, DGC. The event was chaired by DGC principal Prof. Tado Terangpi and attended by guests and also alumni of the college including Padmashee Dhaneswar Ingti, Tenzing Ingti (retd. Supt. Of Taxes), Dr. Dharamsing Teron, former CDPO and Mahila Samity president Khirla Teronpi and others.
The event began with the lighting of lamp and was followed by a minute silence to pay tribute to all those members of the DGC family who have left for their heavenly abode. Prof. Asim Kalita read out the detailed object of the event and briefed on the importance of an alumni association in the college.
Three distinguished alumni of the college Padmashee Dhaneswar Ingti (excellence in the field of literature), Dr. Dharamsing Teron (excellence in the field of research and documentation) and Khorsing Terang (for climbing Mt. Everest) were felicitated by the college for bring laurel not only to the college but the whole Karbi Anglong.
Then, several teachers whose service in the college have ended in the last few years were honoured. Among them were Prof. Bakkar Ali, Prof. Milon Kr. Mazumdar, Prof. Nobin Terang, Prof. JD Thang, Prof. Sanjib Kr. Gogoi, Prof. Bimal Saikia, Dr. Mainu Devi and a few others were given a formal farewell.
Many senior alumni of the college had shared about their days in DGC. They talked about the days when the college was located in the campus of Diphu Govt. Boys’ HS School, the shifting of the college campus, the impact of Assam Movement, the ASDC movement and others.
Post lunch, a session was conducted to dissolve the old body of the alumni and form a new a. Due to the very limited number of alumni attending the event, a full-fledged body could not be formed. However, an ad-hoc body under the presidentship of Tenzing Ingti was constituted. Prof. Kabeen Teronpi of the Department of English was appointed as the general secretary along with some others Very soon, the ad-hoc committee will convene a meeting of all alumni to discuss further course of the association.
About Existing students have performed special numbers to soothe the hearts of the former students.
