Diphu hosts awareness drive on Abhilakhi Asoni

Essential commodities to be distributed at fair prices from October

DIPHU, Aug 18: The Department of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs under the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Diphu, organized a “Sajagata Sanmilan” today at Langkung Habe Town Hall, Matipung, Diphu.
The programme aimed to sensitize and create awareness among FPS, LAMPS, WCCS, and stakeholders of ASCWC regarding the upcoming implementation of the scheme for the distribution of Masur Dal, Sugar, and Salt. The scheme will be rolled out in 35 districts from October 2025 and extended to all districts from November 2025.
Chief Executive Member of KAAC, Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, graced the occasion as chief guest. Shri Kaushik Rai, Minister, Government of Assam, Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, was also present as guest. The event was attended by Smti Nandita Garlosa, Guardian Minister, Shri Raju Tisso, Speaker, KAAC, Shri Darsing Ronghang, Hon’ble MLA, Shri Bidyasing Engleng, Hon’ble MLA, EMs, MACs, Shri Biswaranjan Samal, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Nirola Phangchopi, ACS, District Commissioner, along with Secretaries, departmental officials, and LAMPS representatives.
During the presentation, the department informed that under “Abhilakhi Asoni”, Masur Dal, Sugar, and Salt will be distributed at fair prices in 35 districts. In the first phase, 10 districts, including Karbi Anglong, will receive the commodities from 1st to 10th October, while the remaining 25 districts will be covered from 1st to 10th November. NAFED has already floated tenders for distribution to the godown in Karbi Anglong starting from September, with necessary arrangements made by the department. It was further stated by the Additional Chief Secretary that each LAMPS will earn a margin of Rs. 1.80 to Rs. 2.00 per kilogram, after deposits made between the 12th and 16th of every month. The profit will then be transferred to LAMPS accounts on the 20th of every month.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ronghang emphasized the importance of ensuring equitable distribution of essential commodities in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts. He recalled that in earlier years, LAMPS faced challenges due to terrorist activities but expressed confidence that this scheme will strengthen their functioning. Kaushik Rai requested all LAMPS representatives to ensure that during distribution, banners are displayed at distribution centres and no alternative weight machines are used. He also highlighted the State Government’s commitment to strengthening the Public Distribution System and ensuring consumer welfare.The Minister further informed that on 17th August, a meeting was held in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts with the departments of Metrology (Weights & Measures), Mines and Minerals, and Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, where several key decisions were taken regarding the upcoming programme. He added that “Abhilakhi Asoni” will be formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Assam from Guwahati.
