Encroachment on Diphu railway land: DC holds meeting, joint survey soon

DIPHU, Jul 25: In light of the growing concerns over encroachments on Railway land at Diphu, a crucial coordination meeting was held today at 4 PM in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, under the chairmanship of Smti Nirola Phangchopi, ACS, Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong.
Informing this through a press statement, the Karbi Anglong District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) stated that the meeting was convened to discuss the rising number of unauthorised structures occupying Railway land in and around Diphu Railway Station. Officials from the Railway Department, Police, Revenue, PWD, and other concerned departments participated in the discussion.
As per the 2022 survey conducted by the Railway Department, 1,809 structures were recorded as encroachments on Railway land. However, it was noted during the meeting that the number has since risen considerably. Taking note of the situation, the Additional Superintendent of Police advised that the upcoming joint survey should also document the demographic profile of the occupants—including the number of men, women, and children residing on the encroached premises.
To address the issue in a systematic manner, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Railway, Revenue, PWD, and other line departments to initiate a joint field survey without delay. The findings from the survey are to be compiled and submitted to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office for further administrative action.
The move is seen as a significant step towards resolving the issue through inter-departmental coordination, and ensuring that any future actions are backed by updated and verifiable data.
