CHOKIHOLA, Aug 26: A family had a narrow escape when lightning struck their house at Kekora Hidi Jadop Kro village under Chokihola police station around 1 a.m. on Monday.
The house, belonging to Sem Kro, was struck while the family was asleep. Though the strike caused damage to nearby plants, no injuries were reported.
“We were sleeping when lightning struck our house at around 1 a.m. We were all in deep sleep and it was raining heavily at the time,” Kro told TDE.
In the morning, the family discovered that several arecanut and tea plants around the house had also been damaged. Kro said the condition of the plants looked unusual, as if “something unknown had been there and appeared to be fleeing from something.” Despite the damage, the family expressed relief that no one in the household was hurt.
