KOILAMATI, Aug 27: Due to incessant rain for a couple of days, the water level increased in the rivers of Karbi Anglong’s Nilip area. On Friday night at around 11 PM, the flooding water of Semelangso River flowing with a high current broke the culvert at Jayram Teron village in Koilamati. This damage disrupted the movement of vehicles and created a huge problem of communication for the people traveling from Koilamati to Phangcherop, Khanari, Upper Deigrum and vice versa.
At the time this report was filed, the PWD Borpothar Road Division, Silonijan was yet to take action to repair the broken culvert. Locals said that if the repair is delayed, the people of more than 20 villages will have to face the consequences, especially, students will have problems going to school and patients will face difficulties in reaching the health centers.
Locals have mentioned that while attending a Rengma Festival in Phangcherop, the KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, MLA Dr. Numol Momin and Nilip MAC Pobitra Rongpi promised to construct a good road for the people of this hilly area.
“The promises made by the public representatives are yet to be fulfilled. Their words have proven to be fake assurance before the elections because even after winning and coming to power they did not take any step to improve the condition of this road,” said a local resident.
These deprived residents of Nilip constituency had appealed to the public representatives not to forget their promises and to do something to solve the issue of bad road.
