CHOKIHOLA, Aug 17: In las few days, wild elephants have been creating havoc in Chokihola area of Nilip MAC constituency. On August 13, elephants from the Bijuli Forest came to the nearby village of Wophong Teron at night and destroyed a shop belonging to Jakob Tisso. People of the area are not able to have sound sleep due to the fear of the wild jumbos.
On the same night, in Borsali Teron village, wild elephants destroyed the shop of Bimal Taro. Similarly, on August 15, elephants went into the Syam village and destroyed the wall of one house.
Locals are annoyed with the cold response of Forest Department in the issue. Local residents said that they had repeatedly made calls to the employees of North Eastern Silonijan Forest Range’s Bogijan Forest Account Beat, but no one picked up their calls. They accused the officials of turning blind eye on the issue.
