KOILAMATI, Apr 02: More than 1000 families under Koilamati area of Karbi Anglong are waiting for help from the govt. after their houses were damaged by heavy rain, storm, and hailstorms that occurred on the morning of March 28.
The financially stronger families have bought new roofs and repaired their houses, however, most of the affected families being poor are taking shelter under the temporary tents made from the tarpaulin provided to them by the District Disaster Management Silonijan circle. Now, with the monsoon season ahead, these villagers are afraid that their shelter may be blown away by the strong storms at any time.
Villagers informed TDE that till Saturday, neither the local Nilip MAC Pobitra Rongpi nor local MLA Dr. Numol Momin had visited them to take stock of the situation. The poor villagers have appealed their representatives to stay with them and support them in this time of trouble.
