BOKAJAN, Apr 03: Assam police on Sunday night siezed illegal alcohol worth 22 lakh rupees being smuggled into Assam from Arunachal Pradesh. The alcohol cartons were recovered from an LP Truck parked at Goutam Basti Parking.
The alcohol were seized as a result of a joint operation carried out by police and excise department personnel. The truck bearing registration number NL 01 AE 3666 was carrying the alcohol which were hidden inside the cartons of ‘Neeraj’ edible oil. There were 869 such cartons in the truck, which was coming from Guwahati and moving towards Imphal. Police received a secret information from a source and acted immediately to stop the illegal alcohol from reaching the destination.
The driver and handyman identified as Rupson Ali (19) and Ismail Hussain Bhuya (24) were apprehended in this connection. Both were residents of Gaolpara district, Assam. The seized alcohol, the apprehended persons and the truck were all kept in possession of Khatkhati police station.
It is surprising to note that police personnel engaged both in the Khakrajan checkpoint and Bokajan PS checkpoint did not detect the alcohol hidden in the truck.
