DIPHU, Aug 16: The 77th anniversary of Indian Independence Day was observed with grandeur and enthusiasm by the Karbi Anglong district administration, alongside other parts of the country on Tuesday. The focal ceremony took place at the grounds of Diphu Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Diphu. During the event, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, raised the national flag and conducted a thorough review of the parade. He further took the salute as various groups including CRPF personnel, Assam Police, home guards, NCC cadets, and school students marched past.
In his address to the gathering as chief guest, CEM Ronghang underscored the historical significance of the day and illuminated the diverse developmental initiatives undertaken by the KAAC across its departments. He also spotlighted forthcoming schemes earmarked for implementation in the region, elaborating on the multifaceted progress observed in Karbi Anglong across several sectors.
Coinciding with the occasion, the district administration honoured exemplary government employees, committed social workers, and enterprising farmers, all of whom have exhibited outstanding dedication in their respective domains. Acknowledgment was also extended to the top achievers in the parade, as well as the participants of cultural and sporting events, as prizes were distributed during the event.
Rich tributes were rendered at the statue of the nation’s revered leader, Mahatma Gandhi, accompanied by heartfelt respects paid to the valiant freedom fighters at the Shahid Tarpan by KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, and other esteemed dignitaries, all held at the Gandhi Udyan in Diphu.
As a part of the celebration event, the chief guest CEM Ronghang, along with fellow dignitaries, undertook visits to the Diphu Medical College, District Jail, and orphanage homes. During these visits, they generously distributed fruits and sweets to patients, inmates, and orphans, demonstrating a compassionate gesture.
The celebration also encompassed a friendly football match between the District Commissioner’s team and the Karbi Anglong Sports Association, and the Karbi Anglong Cine Artists’ Association, respectively.
