International Labour Day observed in Diphu

DIPHU, May 02: More than 1000 people gathered at Diphu Club, Diphu on Monday to observe May Day or International Labour Day. The programme started with the hoisting of the flag by CPI(ML)Liberation, Hills Party Committee (HPC) secretary Rabi Kumar Phangcho. This was followed by a commemoration session led by Pratima Engheepi to pay homage to the deceased leaders who had fought for the rights of working-class citizens.
The public meeting held in the afternoon was attended by members of Nirman Shramik, All India Central Council of Trade Union (AICCTU), Karbi Anglong Kisan Shramik Sabha (KAKISS), Karbi So’arlo Kirsan Asong (KSKA). Among prominent leaders of organisations attending the meeting were KAKISS president Longkiram Tokbi, Nirma Shramik leader Longsing Kro, Bina Rongpipi, Kamen Rongpipi and others.
In the meeting, leaders of several organisations present spoke on the need to spread awareness regarding various schemes made available by the govt. and their benefits to working-class people. They said that all families of working-class people must have a job card, PMAY house, BPL card and avail other schemes available.
The speakers also urged the central govt., and state govt. and KAAC to pay attention to the welfare of this class of people. There must be job security, safe workplace and equal pay for equal work. Further, they also demanded authorities should pay attention to protecting women workers from discrimination and harassment in the workplace.
