HAFLONG, Aug 06: Dima Hasao police on Wednesday morning arrested an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) posted under the Irrigation department in Dima Hasao. The arrest was made following a complaint by the victim’s family.
The accused, identified as Binash Thaosen, age 44, father of two children, is a resident of Surat Nagar in Haflong. Dima Hasao Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Faruque Ahmed, in a press briefing, said that the officer has been sexually assaulting the minor girl for the past few days. He also informed that the accused Thaosen has been blackmailing the minor girl with an audio clip to coerce her.
A case has been registered with Haflong Police Station, case no. 54/2025 under section 64(2)(M) of BNSS, section 6 POCSO Act. 2012 and section 67(A), 67(B)(a) IT act for making the audio recording viral.
ASP Ahmed further informed that the accused have been forwarded for judicial proceedings.
