DIPHU, Mar 19: The Department of Environment and Forest under the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has issued an official notification banning illegal fishing in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. The notification was issued on March 18, 2023, by the secretary in-charge of the department. As per the order, illegal activities like fishing through electrocution and poisoning and hunting of wild animals and wildlife have been banned as per provisions under the Protection of Wildlife Act 1972. The DFO of the East and West Division in Karbi Anglong and the Hamren Division of West Karbi Anglong have been strictly directed to promulgate the orders and ensure compliance.
