DIPHU, Aug 20: Karbi Anglong Mountaineering Sports Association (KAMA), promoting adventure sports in Karbi Anglong celebrated its 33rd foundation day today with a daylong programme at Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) stadium. The celebration started with the hoisting of the KAMA flag by the president and Assam Gaurav awardee Khorsing Terang, which was followed with homage to departed members.
Speaking about KAMA, president Terang said the organisation was formed on August 20, 1990, at Diphu Govt. College. The idea of forming KAMA was came up by a few thoughtful persons, who were lecturers at DGC at that time. It was due to the guidance of leaders like Jagdish Hussain, Robiram Engti, Katharson Engti and many more that KAMA could reach far ahead.
“Through the guidance of KAMA girls have been able to achieve success in adventure sports training. Naro Ronghangpi has been the first female to get a chance in the Assam expedition team. While Serdihun Ronghangpi completed the National Mountaineering Course. Even from boys Surjo Ronghang also finished the highest mountaineering course,” Terang said.
He also said with the support from District Sports Officer, Rilip Ronghang and KASA general secretary, Dr. Pankaj Teron, various adventures will be introduced in KASA so that the boys and girls of the district can learn adventure sports.
MLA Bidyasing Engleng and KAAC EM Ritesh Enghi also spoke about the importance of adventure sports and the need to be promoted.
KAMA secretary Edward Terang, KASA general secretary Dr. Pankaj Teron and former leaders of KAMA including Robiram Ingti, Bhupen Chakroborty, Jagadish Basumatary, Koushik Das and Jayanta Nath also participated in the celebration.
