DIPHU, May 08: In the wake of the present volatile situation arising out of the demand for conceding the status of Scheduled Tribe (Hills) to the Meitei Community in the state of Manipur, the Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF), Central Executive Committee appealed the Meitei and Kuki communities of Assam for maintaining peace.
“…..the KAWJF is of the view that both the Meitei and Kuki communities living in Karbi Anglong Autonomous District of Assam keep their utmost restraint in the interest of maintaining communal harmony,” read a press statement issued by KAWJF.
The organisation further made an appeal to all for abstaining from making any statement in any form which may foment communal tension in the district in particular and Assam in general. They expressed their deep sorrow and anguish over the loss of human lives and properties in the wake of the present communal turmoil in the state of Manipur.
KAWJF eventually urged the district civil and police administration to keep an extra vigil and watch over the agents and probable trouble mongers around and take strict action against people working to destroy peace in society.
