DIPHU, Sep 09: As part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Karbi Youth Festival (KYF), the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) today organised and felicitated the persons who had played pivotal roles in the success of KYFs held in 1974 (in December, at Karbi Club), 1975 & 1976 (Karbi Club) and 1984 (in January, at Diphu KASA Stadium) and 1987 (in January, at Diphu Govt. College playground).
The programme began at around 10 AM in the morning with paying respect to the traditional God of Music and Art Rangsina Sarpo. Those persons associated with KYF and KCS who had already passed away were also remembered during the homage-paying session.
The main event was chaired by KCS president Chandrasing Kro and assisted by general secretary Bidya Sing Rongpi. Among the guests present were KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, Diphu LA MLA Bidya Sing Engleng, KAAC art & culture EM Surjya Rongphar, KAAC EM Madhuram Lekthe, EM Probhat Ch. Taro,
KAAC MACs, former KCS leader Lunse Timung, Karbi Lammet Amei general secretary Joysing Tokbi, KAAC board chairmen and several cultural activists.
More than 145 persons who had contributed their hard work to build KYF and KCS were honoured during the event. Among the prominent personalities were Roy Inghi and Lorence Teron.
“When it comes to the matter of Karbi, we do not see religion and party, we must come together and work for the success of KYF Golden Jubilee celebration. Our tribe is above religion and party affiliations,” said KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang.
“The Golden Jubilee Celebration will be a historic event because the President of India will also attend. The youths have a big role in making the event a success,” said the CEM.
