DIPHU, Sept 05: The Karbi Ex-Revolutionary United Forum (KERUF) has asserted its demand for early implementation of all clauses of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed in 2021 with the central government. This was asserted in its first ever two days Annual Conference cum Celebration of 2nd Historic Karbi Peace Accord convened at Joysing Doloi, Diphu auditorium hall which was concluded on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Horensing Bey said that the MoS of 2011 and the second in 2021 were signed in the greater interest and future of the people. “Some political parties might try to take exploit and take political mileage out of it and therefore, they must be held accountable. Those who ridiculed and criticised the accords are bad omen,” MP Bey said.
The MP further asserted that fight for its full implementation has to be continued in an absolute peaceful and democratic manner together with the KAAC and through dialogues with governments and parties. He also informed that, being a signatory of the first MoS, he has also been pursuing the matter but stated that the 125th amendment of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution was not possible without amendment of the constitution
Spokesperson Rijak Dera during his speech lauded Karbi Anglong Police (Assam police) for playing key role in the success of the peace accord. He also lauded scribes of the district for their equal support befor the peace accord was signed.
During his speech, KRA chairman J. Hangsing also expressed gratitude towards the people for their support before reaching to an agreement. He further urged upon the government for the full implementation of the accord clauses asserting that MoS be honoured in full spirit.
UPDS ex-chairman Longsodar Senar expressed his dismay over the non-implementation of the accord reminding that coming to the table have been extremely painful ones after being staying in jungles for 20 years. “Our demand has to be fully implemented as signing of the accord is a direct sign of its assent to all the clauses of the accord,” Senar asserted.
While speaking at the conference, Karbi Anglong SP Sanjib Kr. Saikia said peace was established after the accord was signed. He also informed that he has also demanded for the removal of AFSPA from Karbi Anglong as peace has returned. He also said that the hill districts of the state would witness more development and progress as soon as all clauses of the peace accord are fully implemented.
Several other speakers also expressed similar views and unanimous in their demand for its full implementation for establishing perpetual peace and the welfare and progress of the hills people.
The conference was chaired by KERUF chairman P. Dili and the agendas of the conference were briefed by secretary Longki Bey. The conference of the former rebel groups was attended, as chief guest, by MP Horensing Bey. KCS president Chandra Sing Kro, KLA secretary Joysing Tokbi, Karbi Anglong SP Sanjib Kr. Saikia, SULFA member Deben Saikia, NDFB member Poresh Boro, KRA member J. Hangsing, UKDA member Zaomjil Kipzen, senior journalist Sonju Bora, UPDS ex-chairman Longsodar Senar and DHD member Meri Dimasa were among notable guests who were present at the event.
