KFA and Sericulture Department jointly conduct training on rearing of silkworms

DIPHU, Aug 24: Under the joint initiative of the Karbi Farmers Association (KFA) and the Sericulture Department, a one-day training on the rearing of silkworms was held today at Nilip constituency’s Sarthe Tokbi village. The programme was chaired by Nilip KFA branch president Kensing Phangcho and attended as guests by Sericulture Department Assistant Manager Ajit Saikia, Senior Demonstrator Shabnam Engtipi, Demonstrator Tingnechin Doungel, KFA CEC president Tingku Engti, GS Soronsing Rongpi, finance secretary Longki Tisso, and several others.
While addressing the gathering, Ajit Saikia explained about the benefits of rearing silkworms. “If rearing silkworms is taken as a serious and full-time occupation, one can easily support a family,” he said.
Senior Demonstrator Shabnam Engtipi talked about what to be done to become a silkworm farmer. She said that a farmer must first cultivate the food for the worms and then make all rearing materials available for use. She also said that her department is always ready to provide all needful assistance help.
KFA president Tingku Engti also promised to help the farmers in all ways possible. Rearing tools were also distributed among the participants of the training.
