DIPHU, Sept 06: In a latest incident, Karbi Nationalist Youth Council (KNYC) president Podmo Teron, who has been protesting on various issues in front of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council gate has been taken into custody by the police. The KNYC president has been protesting to seek justice for land owners who have not received compensation after their land were acquired by state for construction of highways.
The KNYC president was taken into custody on Tuesday evening and was taken to Diphu Medical College & Hospital (DMCH) for medical examination and was again brought back to Diphu police station. Further according to officials, case vide Diphu PS case no. 93/2023 with several IPC sections under 143/188/353/294(a)/53(A)/506 was slapped against him with the Diphu police station and the police was making arrangement to produce him before the District Judicial Court. He was charged in sections dealing with unlawful assembly, preventing officials from performing their duties among others.
It may be mentioned that the KNYC president has been protesting in front of the KAAC gate during which the organisation burnt the effigies of EM Amarsing Tisso, joint secretaries and others to demand justice on the land compensation issue.
