Demands KAAC for upgrade of TVDC

DIPHU, Sept 11: With a motive to strengthen tribal rights the Karbi Rong Asar Amei (KRAA) of Dhansiri committee today held a press meet at Matipung village near a road intersection of local market area over the KAAC recent declaration of upgrading Village Development Committee (VDC) chairman’s seats.
The organization while addressing local media expressed their vehement opposition to the latest notification issued by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). The organisation further said that they would never support Gaon Panchayat and VDC system in Karbi Anglong in the first place terming it as anti-Sixth Schedule.
KRAA leaders demanded early introduction and implementation of the Tradition Village Development Committee (TVDC), which they said, was genuine institution under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India mentioned in paragraph 3 & 4.
In this connection, the organization collectively appealed the KAAC CEM Dr.Tuliram Ronghang to immediately accord the matter highest priority and to ensure the safeguard for the greater interest of the people. KRAA president Riso Rongphar, general secretary Rajen Ronghang, village headman Robertson Hanse also attended the press conference today.
