TUMPRENG, Aug 20: The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) on Saturday called a press meeting in connection with land compensation in the Tumpreng-Hamren Assam Mala Scheme road. The press meet was held at Kheroni Agriculture IB.

During the press briefing, KSA alleged that several landowners are yet to get their land compensation money in the Assam Mala Scheme while many of those landowners who even have received compensation were not according to the government rate.

The students’ organisation also claimed that there are a few names in the list of beneficiaries that were completely invalid mentioning that one of the beneficiary, who was identified as Krishna PG Sharma, s/o Tikaram Sharma was listed as an owner of a rubber plantation even as there has been no non-tribal settler in the villages along the road to be constructed by the Assam Mala Scheme.

In this connection, the students’ body called upon the KAAC EM of the Revenue Department to look into the serious matter and to ensure that only people having valid land patta be unconditionally compensated.

KSA Hamren District Committee vice president Sarthe Ronghang, secretary Birsing Kro, Amrita Beypi, Palomi Enghipi and other members were also present at the press conference.
