KSA Hidipi branch holds anti-drugs awareness cum interaction programme

DILLAI, Sept 11: The Hidipi branch committee of the Karbi Students Association (KSA) today organised an anti-drugs awareness programme cum interaction at Upper Dillai LP School in Kania Bey village under Borjan constituency. VDP Kania Bey and local police also collaborated on the event.

Dillai Police Station OC Nitul Saikia attended the programme as chief guest, while Dillai Thana Committee president Ponkuj, Thana Committee member Nobin Rongpi, KSA Bokajan District Committee secretary Desoi Teron, VP Sarmen Tisso, Village Defence Party (VDP) president Dilip Engti, secretary Sikem Timung, SGB Dorsing Bey, GBs of seven nearby villages and many others were also present.

The programme which was chaired by KSA Hidipi branch president Thomas Bey, was conducted keeping in view the increasing number of youths falling victim to drugs and their abuse. It was an attempt to create awareness among the people about the ways to prevent the youths from taking drugs.

Speaking on the occasion, the president said that the public in the society must act before more youths become victims of drugs. “Families and society as a whole have been facing several problems due to the presence of drug addicts and drug peddlers. We must stop our younger generation from consuming narcotic substances to stop the sale,” he added. 

Bey also appealed to the village headmen attending the programme to apprise the members of their respective villages to prevent child marriage. He also talked at length about the ill-impact of early marriage.

Dillai Police Station OC said that his team is active round the clock to take action on persons related to narcotic drugs. He also mentioned the punishments given in drug abuse cases.
