DIPHU, Jul 20: The KSYC Howraghat Regional Council conducted a football tournament with the theme “Anti-Drugs Campaign through Sports”. The tournament, held at Matikhola Playground, Den Arong, from June 26, concluded with the final match played today.
A total of 16 teams took part in the tournament, and the final match was played between Diamond Football Club and Royal Football Club. The former won the game by scoring 3 goals, while the latter managed to score just 2 goals. The winning team, Diamond FC, received an amount of Rs. 10,000 along with a trophy.
Among the dignitaries present to witness the final match today were KSYC CEC president Sanjay Timung, general secretary Longsodar Engleng, vice president Elbert Ingti, Den Arong Town Committee Chairman Prodip Ingti, KASA Joint Secy Borsing Kro, Den Arong Lamps Chairman Sarat Teron, Dokmoka Police Station OC Biswajit Sonowal and others.
Speaking on the occasion, KSYC president Sanjay Timung said that sports play a vital role in reducing drug use among youths by promoting physical and mental well-being, building self-esteem, and fostering teamwork. Engaging in sports activities can distract from substance abuse, develop healthy habits, and provide positive role models, ultimately empowering youths to make informed, healthy lifestyle choices. He appealed to the youths to refrain from using drugs and make their lives better.
Timung thanked Howraghat Regional Council president Dhoni Rongpi and secretary Pobitra Rongpi for smoothly conducting the entire tournament.
