TUMPRENG, Aug 03: Aggrieved land owners today organised a sit-in-demonstration over non-payment of compensation money in the Assam Mala Scheme in West Karbi Anglong. The protest was held in front of the Dongkamukam Revenue Circle Office and was attended by more than 50 landowners with posters to condemn the scammers.
According to the protestors, the news of land owners not being paid compensation money in the Assam Mala Scheme had surfaced on social media platforms several times in the recent past. However, none have come forward to help the rightful land patta holders.
Khrisna Timung, one of the protestors informed that a team from the Revenue Circle Office comprising of SK Mondols recently visited the field and had interacted with the deprived land owners. However, till date no positive outcome has come.
“Merely writing on social media platforms will not work. People must actually come out to help these aggrieved land owners. Most of these deprived owners are poor,” said Krisna Timung.
The protestors also submitted a memorandum addressed to the KAAC in the Revenue Circle Office regarding the issue and demanded immediate release of the money to the rightful beneficiaries. They also stated that until the compensation are settled, there land should not be touched.
