DILLAI/BOKAJAN, Mar 31: The Karbi Anglong police seized more cartons of illegal alcohol being smuggled through the district.
On Thursday night at around 8 pm, action on secret intel received from its sources, Dillai police stopped a truck bearing registration number NL01 K 4515 at Dillai. The truck was heading toward Dimapur and was carrying potatoes. However, on a proper search of the truck, police recovered a total 500 nos. cartoon of IMFL (sale for Assam only) hidden under potato bags.
Among the seized alcohol were MC No 1 rum (180ml X 48 X 280 cartoon= 13440 bottles, 750ml X 12X 100 cartoons = 1200 bottles), AC black whiskey (750 ml X 12X 35 cartoons = 420 bottles, 180ml X 48X 65 cartoons = 3,120 bottles), and Magic Moment (750ml X 12 X 20 cartoons = 240 bottles).
Accordingly, police seized the vehicle along with loaded IMFL cartons and 200 bags potatoes from the possession of apprehended driver Agur Ali (20) S/o-Md. Shukur Ali R/o-Bogchara Gaon, Sarthebari, Barpeta Assam.
In another seizure, 370 cartons of illegal alcohol from Arunachal Pradesh were recovered by the Barpathar police personnel. In the morning today, under the leadership of SI (UB) Dipen Baruah, OC Barpathar PS along with staff conducted a special naka at Khakrajan under Barpthar PS.
At around 8 AM a truck bearing registration no NL 01 AE 0787 was intercepted which was loaded with Sugar bags. On a thorough search of the truck, the 370 cartons of alcohol were recovered hidden under sugar bags.
The recovered alcohols included 150 cartons of McDowell’s No 1 (full), 145 cartons of McDowell’s No 1(half) and 75 cartons of McDowell’s No 1(qtr.). Police said that the market value of the seized drinks would be around Rs. 10 lakhs.
In this connection, the driver of the LP truck namely Munna Kumar Yadav, SO Jawahar Yadav of Siswabasant, PS Kalyanpur, Motihari (Bihar) was arrested. The consignment was loaded at Guwahati Nalapara and the destination was Dimapur.
