BOKAJAN, May 20: The disbanded Karbi armed group United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) had demanded a high-level inquiry into the murder of Robin Brahma, the former caretaker of Nirmal Tea Estate located in Lahorijan.
“The murder of Shri Robin Brahma some 15-20 years back, former caretaker of Nirmal Tea Estate, Lahorijan, Karbi Anglong still remains a mystery People behind the murder are not arrested to date. The murderers are not identified yet. There is a dispute over ownership of the tea estate. There is suspicion of a deep conspiracy behind his murder,” read the press statement issued today by former C-in-C of UPLA Nikonjo Kathar alias Ram Sing Ingti.
Kathar said that the Nirmal Tea Estate and its adjoining areas are quite infamous for illegal activities people from Nagaland and migrants illegally occupying the land are unabated.
“From people’s statements, it is given to know that the KAAC authority has approved for setting up of an army base camp & training center at Lahorijan Nirmal Kumar Tea Estate adjacent to Nagaland. This act is expected to deter border encroachment of Karbi Anglong along the Nagaland border. However, the proposed act of setting up defence base & training center has not come to fruition,” Kathar added.
He further informed that he has to the Chief Minister of Assam on 18th May, 2023 to set up a high-level inquiry into the murder of Robin Brahma, to evict encroachers of Nirmal Tea Estate at Lahorijan, Karbi Anglong, and to secure Karbi Anglong border.
