ME school teacher absconding duties to work as reporter

TUMPRENG, May 18: A middle elementary school teacher Dharamvir Chouhan has been reportedly absconding from his duties at school and working as a reporter for a portal news channel. The news of the irregularities in his duties came to light when several newspapers and portal news channels published his reports.
Dharamvir Chouhan is an assistant teacher appointed at Lang Amek ME School, Phelangpi, West Karbi Anglong. The school falls under West Karbi Anglong District Mission Co-Ordinator (DMC).
For a long time, Dharamvir Chouhan had been taking salary from KAAC without performing his duties. Instead of teaching students, he would be seen in public meetings, running after politicians. As such, when the govt. is stressing on giving quality education to children, Chouhan is ignoring the importance of being regular in service and thereby defaming both professions.
Villagers had informed that they had repeatedly appealed to the dishonest teacher to either work as a journalist or as a teacher. “We asked him not to play with the future of our children, but, he did not heed to our requests,” said a father whose child studies in the school.
The headmaster of the school Singhason Chouhan while talking to TDE had informed that the accused teacher works on a contractual basis and teaches English. “Students have been facing problems in the absence of Dharamvir Chouhan. I have personally requested him to choose either of the two works. However, he is yet to take any decision and we are suffering the outcome,” he said.
Conscious citizens have pointed that why the authority has turned blind to such cases where a teacher is given a salary without performing regular duties. Questions have been raised on the school authority who had remained silent for so long.
The local public and parents who are sending their children to the school are demanding strong action against Dharamvir Chouhan so that no other teacher would dare to neglect the duty of teaching. All eyes are now on KAAC EM i/c Education Department Richard Tokbi and Inspector of Schools Birensing Ingti.
