DIPHU, Dec 03: The All Karbi Anglong Midday Meal Cook Helpers Association (AKAMMCHA) today held a meeting in D.A.V. Higher Secondary School, Diphu to have some crucial discussions regarding their long demand for an increase in their salary. The association was formed in the year 2009 to collaboratively fight for the welfare of the midday meal cooks working in the schools of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.
“It is not possible to run a family with just Rs. 1500 a month,” said AKAMMCHA general secretary Sunil Rongpi. The association’s president Rupali Beypi, Lumbajong Block representative Onima Teronpi and Romila Terangpi also spoke in the meeting and said that they have been demanding a hike in salary for a long time, but the authority has yet to show a positive response.
“The midday meal cooks in other states are paid Rs. 10000 to Rs. 15000 a month. Therefore, the cooks from Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong should also be given at least Rs. 9600,” added Sunil Rongpi.
