Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Rita Kramsapi, UNICEF IGSSS Sabin Rongpipi, District Child Protection Unit members, Karbi Anglong Sakhi and others were also present.
“The object of the campaign is to make people aware that children up to the age of 14 must compulsorily be sent to school. They cannot be engaged as assistants in any hotel or kept as house helps. We are also giving the message that children up to the age of 18 should be given mobile phones as it takes away from the social environment. Parents should involve their children in outdoor activities,” said UNICEF IGSSS’s Sabin Rongpipi.
“We want to stop the practice of early marriage in society and the trend of keeping children as housemaids,” she added.
As part of the programme the van travelled the Rongkhelan, Birla, Manja, Rongpangbong, Taralangso areas to mark the beginning of the campaign.
