Monsoon poets meet held in Deopani

BOKAJAN, Jul 30: The fifth edition of Barla Hirbang Amei, a monsoon poets’ meet celebrating regional poetry and literary talent, was held today at the Nambar Nadi Auditorium Hall, Deopani. Organised by Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) under the Nihang Donsuri Longri Amai unit, the event brought together over 40 poets and literary figures from across Karbi Anglong.

The literary gathering began with a tribute ceremony at 10:30 am, led by KLA president Jivon Bey, followed by a formal session chaired by Tuseswar Terang, president of the KLA Nihang Donsuri unit. The event witnessed participation from esteemed guests, including KLA Secretary Liladhar Teron, Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) president Humsing Bey, KCS secretary Kensing Teron, JLF president On Teron, writer Joysing Tokbi, Deopani College Principal Boson Rongphar, former AXX Karbi Anglong president Barim Engti, Kangther Bey, Bhubon Tokbi, and others.

The programme commenced with the rendition of the anthem song ‘Nepi Alam Ne Chinghon’, symbolising the cultural pride of the Karbi people. A literary souvenir titled ‘Donsuri Alir’ was also released during the event, unveiled by KCS president Humsing Bey.

The highlight of the day was the poetry recitation competition, featuring over forty invited poets. Participants showcased their poetic expression in diverse styles and themes of their respective composition.

In the later part of the event, guest poets and senior writers addressed the gathering, sharing their insights on the art of poetry writing, linguistic preservation, and the role of literature in strengthening community identity. They encouraged young poets to uphold the rich oral traditions of Karbi literature while also exploring new creative frontiers.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes, appreciation letters, and certificates of participation to the winners and participants, recognising their contribution to Karbi literary culture.
