LANGCHITHING, Jan 09: To addresses these problems and to keep bamboo thriving as long as possiblea local NGO of Deopani along with expert on the particular field convened a colloquium with the villagers of Upper Deopani Chandra Engti on at village premise here today.
During the meeting on “Carbon Credit and Bamboo Cultivation” The resources persons comprising of Senior Manager of Infinite Solution from Indore, Manager of infinite Solution from Pune, appreciated local NGO for the efforts and initiatives of bamboo cultivation, saying that the NGO to give further orientation and awareness on carbon credit trading along with whole process of registration and other conditions among farmers.
They also mentioned that carbon credit is an initiative at international level to reduce the greenhouse gases emission. Carbon credit is equal to one ton Carbon dioxide and the value of one carbon credit is 22 Euro (1786 Rs) in international market. Bamboo has the maximum potential of carbon credit generation where one acre bamboo can give 80 carbon credits of Rs. 60,000. The commercial bamboo cultivation focusing on important species of bamboo is suitable for cultivation in the district and its use in bamboo industry.
The resource persons mentioned that bamboo is an important remunerable crop for climate resilience which add maximum carbon credits and live for 40 years once planted. They also added that there are eight species identified for Karbi Anglong with specific purpose of each variety.
Good number of village farmers along with (HLTEC) NGO workers including Sotkiri Terang, Joysing Engleng participated in the seminar.
