DIPHU, Aug 13: In a shocking development, a massive number of locals of Diphu town have expressed their horror over the use of old and discarded brick in the construction of the boundary wall of Ru Semsonsing Ingti Memorial Park at the heart of Diphu town.
The shocking matter came to light after several members of the Auto Truck Association spotted workers collecting bricks from a house that was collapsed and located near the construction site. On receiving information, local reporters reached the spot to verify the serious allegation that has surfaced. On being asked, workers engaged in the construction of the boundary wall said on camera that they were being asked to collect the old and brittle bricks for the construction work by the contractor, in charge and even engineer.
Further, locals also informed that they had also seen the old bricks used in the foundation level resulting in several massive cracks. “These contractors are openly taking the KAAC for a ride and therefore, deserved stringent against them,” local said.
When asked the names of the contractors and those involved in the work, the labourers informed that they only know the contractor by his surname ‘Gupta’ and in charge as ‘Noor’ following which no further detail is available about the contractor and others involved in the boundary construction work. The labourers told reporters that they have been using the old and discarded bricks for the last two days.
Following this, several citizens have expressed their outrage and vehemently condemned the contractor and officials involved in carrying the construction work with discarded materials terming a grave offense to the entire KAAC and the people of the district. Concerned locals have also called upon the KAAC authority for immediate inspection and stringent action against those involved in ordering works to use discarded bricks and warned that those bricks are extremely brittle and therefore dangerous.
It may be mentioned that the foundation stone for the construction was laid in October 2022 by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang as part of Diphu town beautification for which Rs. 16 core was sanctioned from the MoS fund.
