BOKAJAN, Apr 11: The village headman of Rongdo Singnar village today performed the Sero Phumang Kangthi or Sar Kacheso ritual. This is a ritual performed by a person who takes the charge of the headman as the fourth generation in the family line.
As per Karbi tradition, when a person becomes headman or rong asar, he will be given the charge in the presence of headmen from nearby villages, traditional singers, traditional officers and all villagers as the sar kebat ritual. After him, the fourth in the family to take the charge again performs the ritual, but this time it will be known as sar kacheso or sero phumang kangthi. The event was attended by representatives from 17 nearby villages, Chingthong asar and Ronghang asar, traditional singer Longki Timung, former KAAC MAC Kangjang Terang, former MLA as well as independent researcher Dharamsing Teron, KARAA president Dhormo Teron and others. As per tradition, Mohen Singnar the son of the former headman Lt. Longki Singnar was given the charge of a new headman.
