St. Joseph School observes World Disability Day

DOLAMARA, Nov 03: The World Disability Day was observed at St. Joseph School in Dolamara here today. Jirsong Asong Director Fr. Thangachan, Project Director Nedaroiki Lamere, Sister Jacinta, Sister Deepty and several Brothers were present at the programme.
Since the past 12 years Jirsong Asong Director Fr. Thangachan has been working for the rights and equality in other opportunities for people with disabilities in Rongmongve Block inside Dolamara. Many persons with disabilities have also been able to obtain the certificates. During his speech at the programme, the Jirsong Asong Director has called upon the parents of people with disabilities to explore other opportunities rather than wait for government assistance or schemes. He emphasise that keeping minds open is vital for creating more opportunities.
Sister Jacinta during her speech focused on the importance being respectful to all sections of society and especially towards people with different disabilities to create a caring and progressive environment for all.
During the event, people with disabilities and their parents performed songs and various dances to encourage children with disabilities.
While speaking to media, Fr. Thangachan expressed gratitude towards the efforts being made to create a respectful and caring environment. He said that it is extremely difficult for people with disabilities to go to Diphu and apply for certificates and therefore, they have been able to help many in getting certificates in order to apply for government assistance and schemes. He also informed that Jirsong Asong have already helped around 70 persons in getting the disability certificates.
