DIPHU, May 10: The statue of Rongpharpi Rongbe erected at the centre of Diphu is to be disassembled and relocated. The Karbi Anglong Autonomous issued an order on Tuesday regarding the shifting of the statue to the 5th Mile along the Diphu-Manja road.
Under the initiative of the Art & Culture of KAAC, a ritual was performed today to make the spirit of the legendary lady aware of the relocation and to plead to her for causing no harm due to the move.
“There will be no damage done to the statue in the course of the relocation. The statue will be disassembled part by part and stored in a proper way. Once the arrangement for the new site is completed, the statue will be put together,” said the assistant engineer of PWD R&B Bishnu Chettri.

Meanwhile, Tribal Culture Research Officer (TCRO) Dilip Kathar stated that the relocation is a necessity as it stands under the under-construction Diphu fly-over. “Once the flyover is completed, the statue of the legendary lady whom we pay so much respect will become dirty as it stands under the flyover,” he said.
