Students’ orgs prevented from visiting Mukroh by Assam Police

PHELANGPI, May 30: More than thirty students organisations including Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), MSU, DSU and GSU were prevented from visiting Mukroh by the Assam Police. The students’ organisations visit was aimed at creating awareness and do their own fact finding towards peaceful resolution of border disputes between Assam and Meghalaya.

The visit to Mukroh was part of students’ organisations of the state and district’s aim to acquaint with genuine fact and genuine situation at the ground level. The students’ organisations told media that they were prevented by the police from visiting Mukroh and meet people of the area following the meeting of Assam and Meghalaya chief ministers Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Konrad Sangma last Wednesday on May 24 at state guest house in Koinadhora.

A public meeting was held with the aim of interacting with the people inhabiting border areas. The meeting was chaired by KSA president Semson Teron and was attended, as chief guest by AASU chief advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharya, and he was accompanied by All Assam Tribal Sangha general secretary Aditya Khaklari, Hajong Student Union president Sanjit Hajong, All Assam Tribal Youth League president Dhiren Engti, Sonowal Students’ Union Raton Kachari, and All Assam Dimasa Student Union general secretary Maising Johorisa among others.
