Students protest over various issues in AUDC

DIPHU, Mar 23: Students of Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) organised a sit-in demonstration over the prolonged neglect of the council towards the campus. The protest held in front of the university’s gate was led by Assam University Diphu Campus Student’s Union(AUDCSU).

Among the various demands made by the student leaders were the appointment of permanent faculties for vacant posts, the immediate appointment of guest faculties, increasing the number of non-teaching staff on the campus, immediate introduction of more university buses, provision for clean and hygienic drinking water, upgradation of buildings, construction of students playground, entitling AUDC library in the honour of Lammetkuru Bonglong Terang, explanation on Medical Insurance fee and the formation of Alumni Association.

AUDCSU leaders including president Habe Kro, general secretary Semson Engti, VP Rangsina Enghi, AGS Homsera Ronghangpi, representatives of student orgainsations, former students of the university and a large number of students joined in the indefinite protest beginning today. It may be mentioned that in spite of the several assurances from the authority, the development of AUDC into a full-fledged university or campus with the best facilities is taking a long time.

Meanwhile, the Pro Vice Chancellor of AUDC Prof. Shivasish Biswas told the students that he will discuss the issues brought out by the students with the Vice Chancellor of the University soon. He also appreciated the students’ demand for the immediate naming of Assam University Diphu Campus Central Library in the name of Lammetkuru Bonglong Terang the renowned writer of Karbi Anglong and said that he will seek the consent of the vice-chancellor.
